Questions

The questions worth answering before a first call.

How this works, the work itself, and what to expect if you are a candidate.

Evrata is an advisory practice run by George P. Grimbilas from New York City. All engagements are contracted and invoiced by Rand Thompson Consultants, LLC. What follows is that arrangement in plain terms: who contracts with whom, what the work covers, and what a candidate can expect.

How this works

Evrata opens the conversation and works the network, and Rand Thompson runs and delivers the search.

Who am I contracting with?

Rand Thompson Consultants, LLC. All engagements are contracted and invoiced by Rand Thompson Consultants, LLC. Rand Thompson is a New York executive search firm that places finance professionals, and Evrata is an advisor to the firm. We open the conversation and work the network, and Rand Thompson runs and delivers the search.

Do I pay you or Rand Thompson?

Rand Thompson. Nothing is invoiced by Evrata and no engagement is contracted with Evrata. All engagements are contracted and invoiced by Rand Thompson Consultants, LLC. If we work together, your agreement is with the firm.

What is your relationship with Rand Thompson?

We are an advisor to the firm. We bring firms and searches to Rand Thompson and work alongside their consultants on the assignments we are involved in. It is a working relationship rather than a referral arrangement. Evrata makes the introduction, and the firm runs the process.

What does it cost?

Fees are set by Rand Thompson and depend on the search. We do not quote them and we do not commit the firm to terms. If a conversation goes anywhere, Rand Thompson will discuss terms with you directly.

The work

Evrata works finance seats from Analyst through Managing Director, across Investment Banking, Private Equity, Private Credit, Venture Capital, Hedge Funds, Secondaries, Infrastructure, and Corporate Development.

What sectors do you cover?

Investment Banking, Private Equity, Private Credit, Venture Capital, Hedge Funds, Secondaries, Infrastructure, and Corporate Development, along with finance and strategy seats inside companies that are not financial, including Law Firms, Technology, Media, and Telecommunications, and Healthcare.

What levels do you recruit at?

Analyst through Managing Director. The seats that matter most to a firm are usually the senior ones, and a fund building a desk rather than replacing someone often needs the junior seats filled by whoever understands the senior ones.

What happens on the first call?

A short call, and nothing to prepare. You tell us what you are trying to hire and what has made it difficult so far. If it is something we can help with, we will tell you what we think it takes and introduce you properly to Rand Thompson. If it is not, we will say so.

How long does a search take?

It depends on the seat, and anyone who gives you a number before hearing the brief is guessing. Senior roles in specialist markets take longer because the pool is smaller. Hedge fund searches often run longest, because garden leave and non-competes can leave a candidate a long way from a start date.

How do you reach people who are not looking?

Through relationships rather than volume of outreach. The people worth hiring are employed, well paid, and not reading job listings. A cold approach to someone happy where they are does not get answered, and an introduction from someone they already trust does.

What if the search is outside what you know?

We will say so on the first call rather than after you have engaged. A search worked by someone who does not know the market costs you a hiring season, which is more expensive than any fee.

Do you work outside New York City?

Yes, though the network is strongest in New York City. Most of the people we know are here or have been here. If a search sits somewhere the network does not reach, we will tell you before you engage rather than after.

If you are a candidate

Evrata is never paid by a candidate, there is no resume to submit here, and a conversation with us is confidential.

Can I send you my resume?

There is no way to submit a resume here, and that is deliberate. We approach candidates directly rather than running an inbox, so a document sent in would sit unread, and that would not be fair to you. The contact form has a field for a LinkedIn profile URL, which is the right place to point us at your background.

Will I ever be charged a fee?

No. Evrata is never paid by a candidate, in any form, at any stage. Search fees are paid by the hiring client to Rand Thompson, and there is nothing here for a candidate to buy.

How do I get on your radar?

Be findable, and be good at your job. Most people worth approaching are reached through someone who already knows them, so the network you already have is doing more for you than an application would. If you would like to be on ours, a short note through the contact page reaches us, and george@evrata.com reaches the same inbox.

Will you tell my employer I spoke to you?

No. Conversations with candidates are confidential, including the fact that they happened. That holds whether or not anything comes of it, and no name reaches a client without your say so.

Start a conversation.

If a question here is not answered, the shortest route to an answer is a conversation rather than more reading.

Write with what the seat is and what has made it difficult so far. We reply quickly, with a straight answer rather than a pitch, and if a search sits outside what we know we will say so in the first exchange. Ways to reach us are on Contact, how we work is on Approach, and the sectors and levels are on Expertise.
